In The News: This Florida mega-development is turning suburban backyards into a nature paradise

Sunbridge, a 27,000-acre mega-development outside Orlando, is reimagining suburban growth by replacing traditional lawns and private waterfront lots with a “naturehood” built around native landscaping, preserved wetlands, lakes, and oak hammocks that immerse residents in wildlife just minutes from the city.

By committing to Florida-native, drought-tolerant plants and earning recognition as the first Homegrown National Park Community, the project aims to cut outdoor water use by up to 75%, restore biodiversity across roughly 13,000 acres of interconnected habitat, and demonstrate how large private developments can help address habitat loss and resource stress rather than exacerbate them.
